A very happy Holi to you all.
As beautiful and colourful the festival of Holi is, it has some really harsh effects on your skin and hair. Here are some basic and really effective skin care and hair care tips for Holi 2017.
Pre holi care
Soak yourself in oil and lots of body lotion. It will feel greasy at first but this will help come off all the colors fast and smooth. Use a generous amount of moisturiser with SPF and do not neglect the area behind your ears and earlobe.
Oil your hair with warm coconut oil, castor oil or olive oil. If you have dandruff add 8-10 drops of lemon in your oil and liberally apply the mixture in your hair. Get yourself a hairband or tie your hair in a bun to ensure maximum protection from the heat and colors.
Wear dark colour-full sleeves cotton clothes. The lesser your skin is exposed; the better it is for you. Wear full sleeved and full length clothing to give your skin maximum protection from colours. Avoid wearing denims as they get really heavy when wet.
NOTE : Take off all your jewellery to prevent it getting damaged.
Apply dark nailpolish on the nails as this will give you a protective coat. If you have long nails, trim them to avoid colours being deposited.
Don’t wear lenses. In fact completely avoid wearing lenses or glasses. But if you cannot do without glasses, just be careful while applying colour as the color gets stuck onto the edges of your frame.
If you have cracks on your lips, the colors would seep in through those cracks and harm your skin. It’s a must to protect your lips and apply a lip balm with SPF generously on your lips.
Don’t get waxing, threading, facials or skin treatment done at least a week before and after holi.
I’m sure you all would have your holi parties to attend, so go easy on the makeup. I would suggest you to apply just the mascara, a nude lipstick and a hint of blush on the cheeks.
Post Holi Care
Some people use detergent soaps on their body to remove colour. AVOID such desperate attempts.Take a shower in lukewarm water. Apply a body lotion or body oil on your body generously after taking bath.
Make a paste of besan (gram flour) and raw milk and apply it all over your body. This will help scrub off the colour from your skin. It would also help to remove the tan and make your skin smooth.
If your have a sensitive skin and want to get rid of irritation, you can use aloe vera gel, cucumber juice and spritz rose water on the affected area. This would help you soothe your skin.
